ABOUT - SCHOOL OF NURSING ,TINSUKIA

INTRODUCTION

The School of Nursing (herein after referred to as School) is a part of St.Luke's Hospital, Tinsukia being an Institution of the Diocese of North East India of the Church of North India, being run by the North East India Diocesan Trust Association. The Origin of the School goes back to the very beginning of St. Luke's Hospital at Chabua in 1923, with formal nursing courses being introduced in the 1930s. The first batch student appeared preliminary senior examination in 1955. It is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and Assam Nurses' Midwives'& Health Visitors' Council in the year 1990. Under the guidance of a qualified faculty, the students are trained to help people attain, retain and regain health by their professional knowledge and skill and personal commitment to serve humanity.

1.MISSION

School of Nursing, St.Luke's Hospital Tinsukia is concerned with holistic development of individuals who undergo nursing education and training to become professionally competent and ethically sound nurses, who would provide excellent care and service and who would strive to keep themselves updated with the latest developments in nursing and its related fields.

The School of Nursing aims to provide the best facilities for students to develop professionally and also to nurture each individual in its care, to have integrity as a core value and God's Love as the centre of their personal and professional life. They would become responsible individuals and contribute to the development of their family, community and the entire nation and globally.

2.PHILOSOPHY OF SCHOOL OF NURSING

  • We believe that this development can best be realized through the principles of Christian social living based on a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.
  • We believe that the basic course in Nursing is based on sound scientific principles and the practice of nursing is an integral part of the basic course.
  • We believe that the professional nurse upholds the ideals of the nursing profession and works towards the continued improvement and growth of nursing, and interprets her profession to society.
  • We believe that we have responsibility to the student and to society, to make provision in the programme for the continued development of the student as an individual, a citizen as well as a nurse.
  • We believe a philosophy is dynamic and need for periodic evaluation and revision.

LOCATION OF THE SCHOOL

The School of Nursing is located in Tinsukia, an important industrial and commercial town of North East India. Tinsukia is well connected by rail, road and air, with Dibrugarh airport which is at a distance of 48km. The distance between New Tinsukia Junction to School of Nursing is about 5.8 km and 3.5 km away from ASTC.

  • To promote better health in the community
